How much light is recommended for a hatchling Sulcata? And, how do the different types play into this recommendation?

1) Indirect sunlight – next to an inside window (for example)
2) Direct sunlight – (Understand this requires adequate shade for tortoise to decide)
3) UVB light.

Comments?

Thanks

next to the window does not do anything for the tortoise, windows filter out UVB rays, In the sun is the best, and if all possible should be housed outdoors all day every day. UVB for indoors is the best lights should stay on for 12-14 hours a day.

I personally keep my baby Sulcata under a UVB light atleast 12 hours out of the day. He seems to thrive well and has a hard shell (it actually got harder after I got this light, plus a good supply of calicum dusted goods!), but I can't see anything being better than the natural sun itself.

Can you share the type light you have found so successful?
Thanks,
