What is the longest you have ever had a female stay gravid?

cheyenness Aug 04, 2003 04:12 PM

I figured it was time for my stupid question of the week!!

What is the longest you have ever had a female stay gravid?

Average is 3 - 4 weeks..... well that is what average seems to be around here.
I want to know what the longest is that any of you has ever had a female stay gravid before laying? Especially on a double clutch from one breeding.

I have a female that is 4 weeks today and showing NO signs at all of laying. She is big as a house (Twice as big as her first clutch of 17) and eating, eating, eating.

I have never had a female go over 4 weeks and was wondering what the longest is she could go before it became a problem.

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

I've never had a beardie go over 4 weeks, but one of my hognose snakes is past her 50 day mark and she's not showing any signs of laying anytime soon, she is still responding to food and is as big as a house! Christy

Thanks for getting back to me. She is now officially over 4 weeks and ate this morning and still not doing anything "special". I am just wondering when it becomes time to worry... Hopefully someone else will respond

I have heard comments on this board that females have become egg Bound, but I have not heard of any one following up that said they lost there female.

How do you know when the female became Gravid?

Females can store Sprem and may lay several clutches one right after the other about 20 to 30 days a part.

Just hold on, she will stop eating and then start digging, then you know it is time.
