Not Thayeri but Humor Me

RussBates Aug 27, 2006 08:42 AM

Friday was a pretty cool day. The last of my eggs for the year started pipping. Although not thayeri, these Sonoran Gophers are pretty cool too. I ended up with 5 albinos and 4 hets from a pair of triple het not bad. There is the possibility of axanthic or perhaps blizzard mutations floating around in these guys.

Thanks,
Russ

Hi Russ

Congrats on the new hatchlings. I have a special place in my heart for Pituophis also. I truly think that they are under rated animals as they are very unique and a joy to keep. I'm sure others would love to see how they look after they've all hatched. Now back to mexicana.....hehe.

ps. shhhhhh....here's another one from south of the border.

Hi Vichris

Russ got it right. It's Pituophis lineaticollis lineaticollis. It has a lot of common names like Cincuate Bull Snake, Mexican Lined Pinesnake, Cope's Gophersnake. I picked up a pair when they first became available in 04 after a keeper in a CA University bred a pair that they had in their collection. A lot pituophis fans, like myself, have been looking for some of these animals for sometime (including P.l.gibsoni) so I was very happy get a pair. Anyway, back to mexicana.......

mexican lined pine or lineacollus?? Those are sweet in my book. I've got some hypo stillwaters and applegate gophers hanging around my snake room too They keep the thayeri in check!!

I love pits, partly because I have seen so many of them in the wild. If I had room for something other than kings, I would get some gophers.

Hi Kingaz

Nice Sonoran! I caught one of those beauties when I went herping in SE last month. It was nice and clean looking too. Thanks for sharing.
