QUESTION FOR BREEDERS!!!!!!!!!!

keith_ecko Aug 04, 2003 04:31 PM

I mentioned in a previous post that I was looking to buy my beardie sometime in January for 2 reasones.

1) Wanted to see what I was getting myself into for 1!
2) TAX REFUNDS!!!

So my question is since I live in Northeast Ohio (1 hour east of Cleveland) were it's normally freezing that time of year would you typically ship a dragon under those conditions and if so what methods do you take? If not, what is an optimal temp to ship???? Thanks!

Well it depends. A lot of breeders have their dragons in cool down. They still have some holdbacks for sale though. And some breeders breed year round or specificly in winter to supply the pet trade. As far a shipping goes sometimes they do sometimes they dont. they can ship with heatpacks. But sometimes they say there is no garentee anymore.

peace,
nate

I wouldn't! Best temps are from 60 - 90 degrees. But we can go a little each way with using ice or heat packs.

Hope this helps.

I recieved my now adult male dragon in the middle of a blizzard in march. He was very cold and the packaging wasn't even close to insulating enough. This is probably why he's so prone to getting sick cos he was extremely cold on arrival.
BUT... at work we recieve lizards in January with no problems because the dealer ships them in insulated containers with heat pads in them. It really depends on the care the person sending it takes.
I'd recommend trying to find a breeder in your area at least tho. January is a cold place. A breeder will be able to provide a healthier animal than a pet shop (99.9% of the time) and will know it's history.

Well, I got one of my dragons from the Dachiu's in January. They don't have as much of a selection at that time, but they should have some dragon available.
