Austin Stevens

zdmarkha Aug 27, 2006 03:14 PM

I was watching a program not too long ago on discovery i believe it was about this guy. they had a segment on a time when he spent one hundred something days in a enclosure with dozens of cobras. Wondering if anyone else saw this show and what your thoughts were when you saw him sitting with all those snakes.

I have not seen his snake sitting, although I would like to. Austin Stevens tends to be a tad infamous for his "Seven Deadly Strike" show about the seven most dangerous African snakes. During the taping Stevens managed to be bitten byt two of them.

i saw the show where he was in the room with the cobras. it was 10 or more years ago. i remember them saying he got bit while pulling this stunt, but took medical attention without leaving the room. complete idiot in my book.

Yeah seeing him treating that cobra the way he did seemed like he was gunning to get bitten. And he did. Guys kind of reckless at times it seems. He is entertaining though.

*Enjoy* him while you can....before he ends up like the guy featured in the documenatry Grizzly Man.

Ever notice how almost all of the snakes he "captures" (at the last minute) have obvious nose-rubs? I have never seen a wild snake with a nose rub! Then there's the credits where some local zoo or snake farm is "Thanked for their cooperation"
- yeah, right! Thanks for the use of your captive stars of the show!

Didn't he find a western Gaboon in East Africa(or the other way around?) I remember something being said about that when the show was first released. Another less obvious piece of evidence of staged snakes-in most of the snake documentaries(not just his) that show rattlesnakes the rattlesnake has a long, FLAWLESS rattle with the first button-espacially with rere species.
