Homopus sp

Does anyone know where I can see one and/or purchase one?

It is very unlikely that you will be able to purchase Homopus ssp. in the US these days. They are now pretty well protected against collection and exportation in Africa, and I don't recall seeing any imports of them for about ten years now. A few private indididuals may have some animals from the last legal importations, but I am not aware of any current private owners. There is a fellow in the western US (MT, I think) who had one or two Homopus areolatus. It seems he was getting divorced and offered them for sale about 8-12 months ago. Maybe you can track down those animals.

If you are near NYC, there is a breeding colony of Homopus signatus (Speckled Padloper) at the Bronx Zoo. The adults are about 4" long and the babies look about the size of a nickel. They are not on exhibit, but if you ask one of the staff, you may be allowed to view them.
