05 Black Ratsnake

Steve_Craig Aug 27, 2006 06:53 PM

Here's a couple of updated pics of my 2005 black rat from Dwight Good. He's around a year old, maybe a litte less, and as you can see he's getting pretty darn black. When he gets older I'll use him for native species education. I'd say most of the black rats here in Virginia turn out as nice solid black adults, so my 05 male is just what I wanted.

Very nice Steve. I love solid black black rats. I saw a beauty, probably about 4.5' in Shenandoah National Park in June. He was sunning on the foundation of an abandoned barn. I say "he" because he had a prolapsed hemipene. When he noticed me he crawled into the barn and immediately went into a hole in the wall as if that was his usual hangout. He was solid black and beautiful. I wish I would have gotten a photo but I just wanted to watch him and be as unobstrusive as possible.
