Leaking Egg!!

chiropteragirl Aug 28, 2006 03:54 AM

Hi All, I just noticed an egg that was laid on 7/10 is leaking from what I noticed to be a small defect in the shell. I incubate them at 75-78 on miost vermiculite. It seems a bit early for hatching. The egg seems viable in every way ( white chalky color, visible growth, etc) except for the one spot I have noticed since t was laid. It looks to be a thin spot. The eggs came from a female I recently acquired. Prior owner dusted crickets and took good care of her, and her last clutch was fine. Any ideas? I'd prefer not to lose this one if possible

The vermiculte (or whatever incubation medium you are using) maybe too damp and the excess moisture is oozing out of the egg...or could be a rupture in the weakspot you noticed as well. As long as the leaking is a small area and not excessive, I don't think there is anything to worry about. You should have another 5-15 days before hatching, though it is possible it may want to hatch early as well. (though 50 days is low for incubation time, 55 days is possible though but still considered low).
