PIN-DOT M B K.............

JETZEN Aug 28, 2006 04:53 PM

strange that both parents of this one are typical jet-black MBK

Not that strange in my opinion. Sometimes you will get the looks like yours from all black parents.
Most times it does dissappear though with age.
I think the mbk in the wild would have much the same look, don't you?
Some say the mbk is just a black splendida and show it.
I like the totally black but I do like the pattern too!
Yours is nice.

i only put the word "strange" in my post to generate interest. And i totally agree with the idea that MBK are just black SDK and SDK are merely patterned MBK.
I have heard that C.B. MBK have been selectivly bred for the jet-black look and SDK have been bred for the patterns that sell good.
Now what do you think of this Pin-Dot MBK's strange belly?
Image

crimsonking Aug 28, 2006 06:26 PM

Cool, but again, not that strange I think.
I had one pure black male that when to a specific pure black female, would produce snakes with RED specks/checks on their bellies..WTF?
Since, as you eluded to, they weren't desirable (sellable) I quit that pairing and never got any more like that. If it were something I had time to mess with and really wanted to, maybe I shoulda kept it up to see what would have eventually happened with that "line".

i would like to see a pic of a MBK with even half the amount of ventral color as my "PIN-DOT/FIREBELLY MBK". I doubt if you have a pic of this type. Please produce a pic Mark, here's another.
Image

crimsonking Aug 28, 2006 07:07 PM

Well you got me there. I doubt I ever took any good ones. I may have a scan-able one. Doubt it. Mine didn't have that "stripe" thing going down the center but rather mostly right at the side/ventral area.
If you had been around, you coulda had 'em all.

Ventral area? you mean like pink anal plate? that's about as common as their white chin spot, and i doubt if i would've wanted them even if i was around, heh heh, lol, the MBKs i keep now days are mostly patterned, the other type is too abundant.

crimsonking Aug 28, 2006 08:23 PM

No not the anal plate, all along the side and at the sides of the ventral scales.

you don't have a pic because i think you're FULL of IT, no one ever produced MBK like that, and the only way i could believe it, is if I at least saw a pic and then i prolly would doubt they are full MBK. And i suppose you're gonna say you are the only one who produced them? right? Ah-hahahahahah-haah ROFLMAO!!! btw nice GBK at the top of page! later.......

I recieved 6 MBK in trade only one has the killer firebelly.
I hav'nt decided what i'll do with them. Glad you like, some arn't very impressed, lol!

antelope Aug 29, 2006 08:50 PM

Pack all those ugly mbk's up and especially that sick one with the tummy ache and send 'em over here. I have been specially trained to deal with illnesses of these kinds and if you don't stop tickling that snakes' belly while hand feeding YOU will be the one reported MISTER!!! Pink belly my @$$! Hope to get you a hand feeding pick of my longnose, not a king but cool snake!

JETZEN - Every time I see that MBK it looks more and more like Phatty, my SDK. After seeing it again I got inspired to try and get some new photos of Phatty.

LOL - All I got for my trouble was covered with poop, musk, and slime. I think I'm gonna rename her again - to $hit Head!

Anyway, here's some old shots you might want to compare to you MBK. What do you think of her belly?

King, the light colored specks on her belly ? were they pink/orange? i believe my firebelly will transform into a white or yellow speckledbelly. time'll tell

Rivets55 Aug 29, 2006 12:26 AM

>>...the light colored specks on her belly ? were they pink/orange?

Not really, the color is off in that photo. They're more yellowish off-white. Note they are on the sides, not the center.

Did you notice what looks like pinkish-brown centers to the neck scales? I have to look at her again - never noticed that before. Maybe its a photo artifact?

You do see the resembleance though, don't you?

i see a resemblence BUT when i study the CK,SDK,MBK western group i see a relative relationship between all three, go figure?
I see a relative relationship btwn these three that is much stronger and closer than any other getula ssp. including holbrooki(SK)

It's very similiar to what i see btwn SK and EBK.

And AK and EK.

FK to me seems to be an oddball.

I see a lot of strange stuff.

antelope Aug 29, 2006 08:55 PM

Somethin' about a cali's head throws them in a class by themselves to me. Bunch mbk, dk, and sk together, ebk is skXek,fk by themselves.
Todd Hughes

JETZEN Aug 29, 2006 10:45 PM

This is why i don't include SK in with the 3 westerns, CK; SDK; MBK all overlap each other where as SK only overlaps SDK on the western side of SK range and the EBK on it's eastern side. Let me know what you disagree with.

gr8snake Aug 28, 2006 11:50 PM

I’m sorry to interrupt but I don’t think it is MBK. It looks like Cal King to me.
I found this one in Pinal county Az.

I need to get off my lazy a@@ and take some pic. I'll try to get them after work tomorrow.
The "westerns" are same size, same food, almost same habitat same temperament. My CK (the one in the pic) sure look like mix between MBK and CK or MBK and SDK.

Now see? If one were to produce such a cross by breeding an MBK to a SDK to a CK in captivity, some might call it a "Mutt", say it was "Impure" - HA!

Mother Nature gets to mess around all she wants!

Its still a King and its still COOL!
