Borrego- Some advice

manog Aug 28, 2006 09:01 PM

Hello,

Looking to take my wife on an overnight to borrego and do some raod cruising. We were there yesterday during the day and the weather was warm but not bad. Can anyone suggest some good primitives style camping areas that have close herp activity this type of year? Names of major roads near by?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a campground in Anza Borrego State Park. Can't remember the prices. We went road cruising Borrego Springs just last Saturday nite/ Sunday morning (26 & 27 Aug).

What did you guys see?

Saw a sidewinder, baby desert glossy, nice big 4' C. ruber (Red Diamond). Jasonmc should have pics. The heart breaker was a DOR clarus phase longnose. That was the one snake in particular I was hoping to see. I don't know what's worse, going out hoping to see a certain snake and not finding it @ all or finding it DOR. Happy herping.

There are several campgrounds in the park; the nicest being near park head quarters in a palm canyon, I think. Get yourself a good map as much of the area is park land where collecting is prohibited. You might try the road that leads from Tamarisk Grove to Julian. I think the upper section is outside park boundries. Seek and ye shall find. Have fun.
