WOMAS: let's try this again

captnemo Aug 28, 2006 09:17 PM

Hi-
I recently received some womas, and want to double check my husbandry. From what I've read and according to their previous owner, I set them up in 4'x2' enclosures w/ a temp. gradient from 95/97F to 80/82F. I'm using aspen as substrate, but have heard of others using cell sorb plus. Does anyone have any comments w/ regards to either temp or substrate? They're active and feeding great, and I just want to make sure they're getting the best! Thanks.
Mike

I think 88 degrees with a cool spot in the low 70's is good. I use newspaper as a substrate. Just my 2 cents.

Ever have any respiratory problems? I've heard that womas were prone to them if kept too cool, which is why I may be a little on the high side.

Those temps are too high, I would keep them at 88 or below, with a cool spot that is ambient room temp. I have kept mine this way for years and they do fine. In the winter I turn the thermostat down to around 75. I live in the desert so I dont have drastic winter temps to deal with.
