pregnant female

dragonking24 Aug 29, 2006 03:36 PM

Hey real quick question. My female beardie is pregnant for the first time. She has been that way for about 3weeks. but i noticed this past week shes been closing her eyes alot. ITs like shes resting. She opens them everyonce and a while but for the most part they stay closed. Just wondering if this is a sign of pregnancy. ALso since shes been gravid shes hasnt taken part in eating crickets like she normally does. she still eats a few but not as much she loves her greens more though. JUst wondering.

Being gravid does take more energy from your dragon which could be why she is resting with eyes closed alot. ALso, as her eggs develop inside of her, she has less room inside her for food. Three weeks is normal for gestation, sometimes it takes as long as 5 weeks for dragons to lay their first clutch. Sure signs she is close to laying is constant digging and often she will stop eating completely within a couple days before egg laying. It is a good ideal to have an egg laying bin set up and accessible to her starting now, so it will be ready for her when she is ready to lay eggs.

She should also be wider in size with little to no weight loss (though she may gain weight due to eggs). You should be able to feel the eggs inside her by gently feeling her stomach and sides.
