Shedding?

tnj318 Aug 04, 2003 06:12 PM

I was just wondering how do uros shed properly without any water source. I have a new juvenile and he is starting to shed and I noticed he isn't shedding like my other reptiles do. Also I wanted to know what the best substrate for a juvenile would be. I used sand but I noticed he was eating a lot of it. I changed to bird seed but he sinks in. I don't want to go back to sand so I didn't know what else I could use.
Thanks!

as far as shedding goes, I cant help, sorry.

For substrate though, bird seed is much better than sand. My GF has been keeping her Uro on birdsee since she got him. After seeing the little beast eat, its a good thing too, because their substrate can easily get into their food dish. Make sure the bird seed either is all millet, or mainly millet with the sunflower seeds sifted out. The shells can cause impaction. Also, dont put in so much that it sinks. My gf set it up so there is a thin layer over the ground, but more in the hide, that way he can feel like he is digging and burrowing. He doesnt sink at all.
