Reluctant Feeder..

I've had my adult Pacman Frog for about 6 months. He was given to me by a friend, and before that he was also not eating for about 3 months. He has a proper shallow dish, nice humid substrate (the bed-a-beast... coconut fiber I think? It expands in water and stays humid and soft), and a heat gradient. I've fried offering him goldfihs, live mice, and f/t mice I dangled infront of him. Absolutely no response, if anything he seems to get more nervous. What else can I do? I really like him, he's such a neat frog and I'd hate for him to starve to death.

Anybody? =(

You stated you've had your frog for 6 mos and it hasn't eaten in that time period? You also said he hadn't eaten for 3 mos prior to that. How is that possible? Did I misunderstand you?
I had a Pacman some time ago that rarely would eat. He lived about 6 months. It wasn't until the end that I realized he had a problem opening his mouth. Perhaps this frog has a similar problem.
There are enough Herp experts out here, hopefully someone can help you.

do you feed at night, ligt off, notice your frog is more active at night.Try a pinky live and just leave him alone for 1/2hr with food see what up.

I've actually thought it over, and I've had him closer to 4 months. I knew the guy who had him before me, who also gave him to me because he would not eat (and frankly seemed to lose interest in him). Secondly, how is that not possible?

I've seen him open his mouth (yawning?) so I'm fairly certain it doesn't have to do with the fact of him not being able to open his mouth. He's also crapped since I've had him, if that helps? Hasn't eaten anything though.. sigh.

Thank you.

How exactly is your cage setup? Size of cage? Temps? How are you measuring your temps? Humidty levels, what are they? Does the frog have access to at least one hide? What's its weight currently? Do you actually see the ribcage or spine protruding/showing? What other foods have you offered, if any?

These frogs, as far as I know, will accept wide variety if they are healthy and if the husbantry is correct, such as earthworms/crawlers (pending on the size of the animal), fish, crickets, mealworms, quail, small mice and pinkies.

There's a lot of questions unanswered, so if you could expand and answer as many as you're able, it'll allow the rest of to hopefully help but right now, the information provided is too vague.

Two other suggestions, one, if the animal has not eaten in 6 months, have you tried calling a qualified Vet that deals with herps? And two, I suggest getting a gram (food) scale. You can pick one up at any farming or supply store for a fairly cheap price. You could also run a search on amazon.com and type 'food scale.' But with a scale, you can moditor and keep track of its weight loss. If it's dramatic, seek a Vet's assistance, that's your best bet, as the frog many need antibiotics for internal paracites (if any).

Best of luck!

He is a large adult frog. I have a 10 gallon with a large shallow dish for him which is surrounded by fake plants. I have a temperature gun. His humidity levels must be fairly high since I spray the cage everyday, I have a sort of insulation on the cover to help keep the levels higher for longer. He doesn't have a "hide" because, he seems content burrowed in the substrate (I think it's coconut fiber.. it's one of those bricks you let sit in water and it expands, very nice!). I haven't actually seen any of his ribs or bones.. he's still quite chubby. I just weighed him, he is 223g. I've tried feeding him live goldfish, live mice, and f/t mice. He shows no interest in them and if anything gets a little nervous and tries to hop away. Besides not eating, he seems to be a happy frog. However since he hasn't eaten in about 6 months, I am considering calling a vet... however I will try whatever one of you might suggest before that.

Thanks!
