Marine Toads and Ribbon Snakes

SnakeBoyAlex Aug 29, 2006 07:23 PM

My Florida neighborhood is full of Marine Toads, and some nearby ponds have plenty of their tadpoles and froglets. I have a pet Ribbon Snake that is feeding on fish and anoles, but it would be pretty easy to grab a couple young toads. Would it be a bad idea to feed my ribbon Marine Toad tadpoles and froglets?
Thanks,
Alex Harper

Marine toads are highly toxic, as are their tadpoles. Very few North American species can eat them, but since they are an exotic species our locals don't recognize them as dangerous and do try to eat them. Don't use 'em as food. Be cautious using any wild-caught frogs (or fish) as food though- many carry parasites (including some that can be passed to humans as well).
