A New Housing Idea!

shelly78 Aug 04, 2003 06:23 PM

I just bought a 5o gallon storage tub.
i think i am going to cut a little piece of it out (like a doggy door)
i am gonna fence off an area for it.
do you think it would work? would it know how to use the door?
i have the turtle out in the tub now. i don't have a configure gate yet. ( i think thats what they call it, like thoose half circular gates.)

i had a pic but having trouble with my photo software.

I dont think it will work. If given a choice i doubt the turtles will use it. I have proided shelter to my 3 eastern box turtles but they prefer to just stay in there leaf pile that is out in the rain and weather. I know u and me would prefer to live in a nice clean dry place. But box turltes like the wet and damp conditions.

my turtles prefer the leaf litter as well, but it is not rare for me to find them in the hide boxes i have prepared for them. go ahead and give them a box to hide in and let them make the choice..."it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it," said a wise man once. i think, however, that a 50 gallon hide box is a bit too roomy. give em one that is not much bigger than they are and they will probably use it more often...
