My first two boa litters ever

Rick2 Aug 29, 2006 10:27 PM

Hi everyone I want to introduce myself, my name Rick Douglas. Some of you already know me from purchases that I have made over the past two years. I've been so excited lately with all the babies born in the last 3 weeks. It was so cool watching Mom wonder all around her albino babies. There were 26 healthy babies, 13 albinos and 13 hets. The other litter was normals which are also pictured. There were 32 babies in that litter with two slugs. Hope everyone is well and thanks for looking.

Now you get to enjoy watching them grow and all of the interesting behavior that began with the mother at the birth of the babies and as the babies grow. You will find one of the hardest parts is deciding which animals you have to keep or are willing to sell. Welcome to the world of boa breeding; you are off to a very good start.

That is an awesome way to begin your boa breeding adventures. Discovering a healthy litter is always a great way to make your day just a little better. Also watching momma watch over her litter after birth is always very cool to observe. How was she when you pulled her out of the cage? Hope she didn't put up too much of a fight.

Those albinos look sweet, as do the hets and normals from the other litter. Good luck deciding which ones to holdback. Those decisions are always the hardest ones I've had to make when I'm lucky enough to have boa babies over here.

Again, great looking kids. Can't wait to see some pics after they've shed.

All the best,

Jay

Thanks Jay. I will definitley be posting picture after they shed. As far as the temperament of the mothers goes, Roxanne the female of the normal litter was very nice and calm, on the other hand Arial the het albino was a beast. My girl friend had to distract her at one end of the cage while I took pictures at the other end. But it was a very cool experience. Thanks again.

Thanks Andy. The albinos may be getting there good looks from the Father Sundance who is a Coral Stripline Albino that I aquired from Rick Kelley at the Chicago Reptile House or Indian Reptile House. Thanks for looking.

Hi Al thanks for the welcome. Very nice picture of the breeding pair. As far as cages go, I'm not sure how many more I can fit in the house. I currently have two rooms dedicated and I can see the third being occupied soon. I started the boa collection about 3 year ago and it has grown to about 45 and that doesn't include the babies but it alot of fun. I am just lucky to have a girl friend that helps me out alot and loves them as much as I do. Thanks again.

rick2 Aug 30, 2006 04:36 PM

Thanks Alex how are you? Definitely one female redgroup and possibly two will be ready to breed this comming year. Thanks for responding. By the way I saw your post earlier today and that was an awesome pastel that you got from second alarm. Talk to you soon.

Way to hit the odds, and produce healthy animals without missing eyes, or other problems associated with albino breedings which some seem to never mention. Glad you had a good time watching momma snake tend to her children. Breeding is the most rewarding part of boa constrictors (forget the money, unless it is to buy other amazing animals). Hi Trey thanks. Are you related to Andie and if so then you should recognize the female in the picture with the albino babies. I purchased her from Andie in August of 05. Tell her thanks if you see her. I named the female Arial and she is a great feeded and now a proven het which I am very happy about. Talk to you soon thanks again.
