I pwersonally would say that after a year of growth it wuld be more accurate to sex by coloration, you can also tell my vocalization, males tend to vocalize after a year or growth

this girl is three now, kind of an old picture so she is much larger

wow i dident know females get that big, what lighting, supplaments and food do use, sorry if im bothering you.

APLAXAR Sep 01, 2006 04:21 PM

NO, your not bothering me this is what the forums are for, she has normal room light, i have a very bright apartment and since they spend most day burrowed as a species i see no need for extra lighting, i have also tried to do really elaborate set ups but she never used the land she always liked the water so i gave her what she wanted a ton water, i can keep it cleaner in there and she just seems happier. as for food i feed her mostly insects such as : crickets, earth worms, silk worms, green giant worms, lobster roaches, superworms (with the heads crushed)she also get the occasional feeder goldfish, and she gets a small rodent every few months for some fat content, she also gets to eat quail when they are availible,

i think i answered your questions, if you have anymore feel free to ask, like i said this is what the forums are all about

APLAXAR Sep 02, 2006 07:44 AM

OH, I live in Vermont so we are kinda neighbors, when i have heated her in the past i use a low wattage bulb on top of her enclosure, but you should always monitor the temps to make sure it doesnt get too hot

My house got to 58 some nights last winter, and my pixie just made a coccoon and slept all winter. This year I'm gonna try a small heat pad.
