not eating

yoimb0b Aug 29, 2006 11:58 PM

i have two baby leopard geckos, one is a blizzard the other is an albino luecistic. The luecistic has just started to eat small silkworms, and ive seen him actually eat them, but the blizzard doesnt seem to be eating anything. I have tried crickets, waxworms, small mealworms, and a small small silkworm. I have not seem him eat. However, i have seem him throw up 2 small mealworms (2 seperate times) and these were very small. If he throws them up, are they too big? ive tried crickets, really small ones, but he wont touch them. The luecistic seems to ONLY eat silkworms, and has only eaten about 3 in a week and a halfspan. Hes alot bigger than the blizzard (their housed seperatly) and he still wont touch mealworms or crickets or waxworms.

any suggestions?

He may be eating when you aren't around. If he is pooping that is good. It's not normal for them to puke though. If he does have a parasite you should give him parazap. It is better than the anti biotics that vets will prescribe the little guy, and work just as effectively. It is less harsh for the gecko since it is all natural, and it will increase his appetite.

Most people would need to go to the vet in order to diagnose parasites. If there's a treatment option other than antibiotics that's better, hooray for that, but I still say take the little guy in and be sure of what you're dealing with - I personally would rather pay the vet bill and have them tell me it's nothing to worry about than not go and have a gecko suffer with something that I could be treating if I would just take action.

My first suggestion is a trip to the vet. Every *healthy* baby and juvenile leopard gecko that I've ever been around has had an absolutely ravenous appetite. Also, puking up what little they've eaten, while it can mean several things, is definitely not a good sign. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like you've probably got a sick little guy. Good luck with the vet, here's hoping the little gecko gets better soon!

I do have to applaud you for housing them separately - that should minimize the chances of spreading any kind of infection. If there is any kind of parasite involved, you'll want to be extra careful about hygene - wash your hands between handling the two geckos, and anything in either of their homes.
