New Schnider Skink in the rescue..

sclark Aug 04, 2003 06:35 PM

Hey all,

Well this is turning out to be an odd year. Never had one Skink come through the rescue and now I have had three in a short time.. Unlike the first one who had a burn, the second one who had a deep gash, this one is just seriously under weight. The store again was PetCo..The pics don't show the full extent, but his hips are seriously sucked in because all his fat reserve is gone, his neck is showing bone, the tail is super thin and his face is way too thin, not to mention his whole spink is very visable by just looking. He also has a broken toe. I will set that after he puts on some weight. The reptile girl at the store said he came in 4 days ago, and refuses to eat. I have had him two nights and he will eat as long as I stick feed him. He like the other skink loves Turkey cat food in gravy. I mix some viaimins, calcium and a few wax worms in it and hold it out for him to eat. I do expect he will get nice a fat. This one is like the other one and likes to be held.. We expect him to recover 100%...
Here are some pics of the Skink..

Any guess, male or female?

Holy [bleep]ezen!
I was worried that my BTS was too thin! now I know what a skink with no fat deposit looks like! Damn Steve - You do well my friend! Good luck with that lil one! I'm sure it'll pull through for you!

Luke.

Hey Luke,

So far so good. He is taking food with vitamin plus I sneak in a few wax worms for extra fat.. Hoping for the best with this one..

Hey!

Might be a good idea to worm him if you haven't already. As they are wild caught they most likely have intestinal parasites. Big parasite load for skink that thin can be lethal.

>He also has a broken toe.

That is VERY common in schneider's. I was just admiring your previous rescue's perfect toes.

>>Any guess, male or female?

Looks like a male too.

I agree with Aino. From the look of the head shape, i'd definetly say male. GOod to see someone else dedicated to Schneiders. They're definetly under-rated skinks!

OK, then I got two males.. Don't worry they are both in seperate tanks.. I will adopt this guy out as soon as he is 100%. Now I need to find a couple females..

Hey Aino,

I will be doing a smear on him as soon as I get his stool abit firmer. I would guess this guy has a heavy load of paracites.

Yeah the one skink did have some nice straight toes..
