This one is one from a clutch of 7 from a buckskin leonis and a melanistic female. There were no melanistic babies in the clutch. I like this one for the gray head and the high band count. It is a male. Rin

This is a female leonis from my two vivid reptile line of thayeri. the interesting thing is that i did not cool this pair.the fertility rate was low (3 good out of 7 eggs)but there were some fertile eggs with no brumation at all. Rin

At what temps do you maintain your animals, and did you vary it at all over winter? Did you by chance keep your males a little cooler than the females or all about the same?

i kept male and female in tubs next to each other in a heated rack in my snake room. the ambient temps and humidity dropped some over the winter (in new jersey) maybe five degrees but they had access to their normal tub temps. basically i kept the temps the same as in the summer, but with any natural drops that occurred.
That's good stuff and thanks for sharing the details. There are those who teach us that these snakes don't need to be cooled over winter to have success with breeding and that the females can actually cycle several times throughout the year and produce good clutches. It's interesting hearing how successful those like you are with it.

Hi Rin,
Nice looking male. I had a female melanistic X white leonis male clutch last year, with a male that I kept being very similar to this one of yours. I would enjoy seeing the entire clutch you produced this year and I know of a couple others that would also be interested in seeing the results. Would you have photos you could share?
