This is the female I was hoping he would have breed with this year, she looked to be gravid but never laid, it was like she absorbed them and the lumps just went away. Hopefully next year.
thank you for looking.

I have ever seen. Great pics too! He is even more impressive now that I can see him in a good photo.
Sounds like your female ovulated after she was with the male; she probably wasn’t actually gravid. Try leaving the male with her longer next year. The babies can only be incredible.

Reptiles

thank you for the compliments Rick, I really am enjoying the new camera. The funny thing with this pairing is that I left them together for a long time and then she shed and the lumps came and I left them together for another 8 weeks or so off and on. I would pull them and feed them then put them back together she made 2 or 3 sheds and got huge then nothing. But there is always next year. I was hoping to get you a female off of this pairing.
take care.

Wow, that is one heck of a pairing you have planned. Good luck next year, I'll start saving my pennies!
Thank you for the compliment Mike, I will keep you informed of the progress. I was disappointed this year when they didn't produce, I even re-probbed her to make sure she was a female. But there is always next year.

It doesn't get any better than these two. I like that you mentioned earlier you prefer the more earthy or wild look to your thayeri Michelle and I'm also happy to see the interest rising. Under-appreciated for too long I think.

Mike
Thank you for the compliment on the pair Mike. I am glad to hear there is someone else out there other than myself who appreciates the earthy or wild looking ones. There is something about the old school ones that intrigue me. Last year when I hatched out the clutch from the old wild collected male it was amazing the different colors and hues. I couldn't wait till the next one hatched and they were all so different . This year the first clutch was off of the reduced male and a reduced female, the whole clutch was leonis and thin banded. They are beautiful don't get me wrong, it is just there was really no variation in them like with the w/c group. I have a clutch of 7 left to hatch and all of them are off of an F1 female and the old wild collected male that passed away this year and I am excited just to see the variation again.

There aint no black on those to reduce. I had a greenish one kind of like those back in the late 90's. I hurt myself when ever I remember I GAVE them away to a guy who had no appreciation for them.
Now this guy is what I'd call reduced black. Mike Bodner produced him. Your two are more like "ghost" thayeri or something. LOL

Vichris
Chris, he is awesome. I haven't seen a thayeri yet that came from Mike Bodner that isn't though. I also have a albino garter from him that is cool, I will have to get pics of it. thanks

Michelle
Very reduced and very orange, can't beat Mikes for having lot's of color. thanks Chris.

Hi Michelle:
Really interesting looking thayeri pair you've got there--like none I've seen before. I am most curious about your now-departed WC male. Are you able to provide a pic and any background on him?
Thanks!
Bob
Hi Bob,
I will have to go through some disc for a pic, I had a computer crash last year that made me loose a lot of pic's. I can give you some background though. I had a friend who used to import, and received some back in the late 80s to early 90's and one of the females was gravid. During the time of quaranting the bunch she laid eggs. I can't remeber how many eggs I was told was laid. Eric and Gwen hatched them on a shelf in a plastic tote. They said not all of them hatched but the ones that did were normal leonis and he was the only msp. They kept him due to him being msp and when they closed down Gwen kept him in her garage for many years until I talked her into letting me purchase him. They couldn't remeber exactly how old he was when I purchased him. I kept him just as a pet for years then after talking to John Cherry about thayeri I deceide to get him a female, to try and breed him, I was concerned he was to old to breed but last year he fathered 2 clutches.

Thanks for all the info Bob. Here is the pic of the old male. Minus the ones of him after he was in the freezer, that I forwared to you earlier.

Thanks for the info and pics--greatly appreciated!

Bob,
you are welcome and if I can further assist you please let me know.

You're welcome for the compliment on that pair and thanks for sharing the nice photos. There are many of us now who appreciate these wild-type animals we talk about, so we have many nice surprises ahead. And you're absolutely right... the variability in many of the clutches is great to see. I can't wait to see your wild male X F1 female clutch!
Were you by chance able to save the photos of your clutch from last year produced by your wild male? I would enjoy seeing them again if you could dig them up?!! I would love to see that male as well!
Enjoy the day...

Mike,
here are some photo's of some of the holdbacks. I had a really out of date camera when I took the clutch photo's last year. I will still try and find them.
take care and thanks again,

Beautiful Knobbie and thanks for sharing.

And more great snakes. Those from John are extremely nice, he's big into Vermilya thayeri these days. Watch for many more great things from him over the next few years in the way of thayeri.

Mike
...I've seen a lot already with just these three photos and I was surprised to see that the two leonis are almost the spittin' image of a 2005 F1 female I bought from Dan. Nice buckskin ground color, saddle color, saddle pattern... everything nearly identical to the snake of yours in the second pic and head pattern similar to the first. The milksnake phase animal looks terrific as well. It has that classic deep, rich red saddle color and that over all and unspoiled "vintage" thayeri look. Great snakes and I'll certainly enjoy seeing the rest of the clutch if you do stumble across the photos.
Thanks again for sharing!
