bearded dragons meningitis

beachbeardies Aug 30, 2006 05:53 PM

well we noticed about 2 weeks ago our male dragon, dino, was displaying some odd behavior. when feeding him he was having head spasms and not behing able to catch crickets or other insects. he almost looked mentally retarded.

well we took him in the vet today and found out he has meningitis. they are doing some tests to see if it is viral or bacterial. he has suffered some brain damage from it, but the vet thinks it has only gotten some of the soft brain tissue and not the actual brain yet, which is a good thing in all aspects. he may recover fully, he may have some permanent damage, only time will tell. we have to inject him with some antibiotics right now every 3 days, keep him hydrated, feed him fatty and high protein foods. the vet said pinkys and wax worms for high fatty foods, and chicken baby food and V8 juice for the protein and veggies.

i will post later on his condition.
