Carrot Head??

lefty82 Aug 30, 2006 10:24 PM

Obviously I have heard of carrot tails, but every once in a while I hear mention of a carrot HEAD. I have never actually seen a picture of this though, so if anybody could explain it to me and/or show me pictures, that would be great.

Does a carrot head need to be a baldy as well? Where is the orange supposed to be - at the base of the neck, over the entire head, etc? Is there a "shade" of orange that is required?

I'm curious because Tamale is a baldy and his/her head is a more orange-color than the yellow on the body (see my post below for pictures).

Carrot heads are leos with that deep carrot tail orange on their heads. Its a polygenetic (linebred) trait bred by Ron Tremper, and is one of the ingredients in the APTOR/RAPTOR morphs. Its fairly new so its not as widespread as other traits but I know of a few people who are working on outbreeding it into other lines (Brightalbino.com has produced the first bell albino carrotheads)

I own one, heres a pic from the breeder when she was 18 grams (shes now 60 grams...)

Isn't the tail awefully thin for the gecko to be that large?
