Question about eggs...

lefty82 Aug 30, 2006 10:27 PM

I have a ways to go before I need to worry about this, but I am curious - do females lay eggs even without a stud? Just curious as what to expect - most of my manuals cover eggs in the breeding section, but I have found no mention of whether or not they just lay them all the time as part of their normal routine.

Once they reach their adult size the females will start producing eggs naturally, which will be laid even if they have never been exposed to s stud. This usually starts at about 15 months of age if they have never been mated. Ive only had one of my unmated females lay eggs, she had been breifly exposed to my stud so I was unsure as to wether they would hatch so I incubated them until it was obvious that they were duds.

I've experienced that leopard geckos won't lay eggs unless there is a male around.

Out of my 3 females I had one that began laying eggs towards the beginning of the season. I had had her for 1 1/2 years and as far as I had been told she had never been with a male before I got her.
