Your feeder lizard supplier?

Brad Alexander Aug 31, 2006 02:43 PM

What's the scoop? Any of you guys know of anyone selling feeder lizards out there? Anoles seem to be a bulk option but I'm not sure about parasites, if freezing will make them safe or if alterna will even take them. I've heard of other lizard suppliers out there but am not aware of specifics. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be posting some alterna from this year next. I've got some smokin RR's to show off.

Thanks,

Brad

Maybe one of them can pick an earless or spiny for ya?

Time to start calling favors in.

Check the food/feeder classifieds here on kingsnake.com ... I've bought feeder anoles from some guy in florida last year for $1 ea. ...think soemone was posting anoles this year... too bad you never see large groups of newborn scoloporus for sale. I've never tried anoles on alterna, but they may take them. I'm using some 5 lined skinks now to scent pinkies for a few baby mex mex kings... I froze them first...don't know if it helps on killing the parasites off or not...I believe they need to be frozen below a certain temp and for a certain length of time to be completely safe (of course I could be wrong). Anyways- good luck...I saw the pics of your baby RR's- NICE!

I once bought 100 anoles and most of my baby alterna would not take them.
For problem feeders these have been most successful, listed in order.
Live or frozen Uta and Scelops about 95%
Earless scented pinks about 60%
Scelop or Uta scented pinks about 40%
Live or brained pinks about 10%
Live or frozen anoles about 10%

I agree w/ Aaron. I just moved from FL where of course anoles are everywhere and over the years I have had much more success w/ scelops or uta for problem feeders when compared to anoles. I don't think buying a large quantity of anoles is going to be money well spent.

Mediterranean geckos work great with baby alterna. I usually just pop the tails off a bunch of them and let them go. I feed them just the tails for a while before I start scenting with them. Of course, if you can get them, earless are the best.
