White Striped Gecko Question

ISWThunder Aug 31, 2006 04:00 PM

Hey I was interested info on White Striped Geckos. My younger brother is interested in purchasing one, but I am unable to find too much information on care for them.

Can anyone help?

ie. What does it eat
What lighting does it need
Best tank sizes
Will it be a lizard he can take out of the cage and not fear it will run
Do they bite?

They arent really an animal that you will be able to take out and handle with any amount of regulariity or ease. They are a very flighty species, and they will try to bite if restrained. With that said, it may or maynot be something he's willing to deal with. As for tank size, I would recomend a 30g or something of similar size (or larger). And for lighting you're going to need a UVA/UVB light as well as a heat source.

They make great displat animals, but if hes looking for something a bit easier to handle and slower, you may want to research into Leopard geckos, or maybe cresteds.

CLOACA HERPS

These are a great species to work with. I used to keep and breed them, their alot of fun. I had my pair in a 20 gallon long set-up. I used peat moss substrate, a few branches and logs, and some fake plants. I had a normal flourescent on their enclosure. They perfer the temp lower then 85 F, 75-80 is perfect. I fed mine, crickets, mealworms, superworms, and even fuit, such as banana and peach babyfood. The adults would guard the eggs and hatchlings aswell. I could not handle the adults but when the babies got established they would tolerate handling, even when they became adult.

Hope this helps.
