The airline won't let me carry on Frogs from frog day

shopaholic May 20, 2003 11:35 AM

I'm am so sad! I moved heaven and earth to go to frog day. I just checked with Southwest Air and they don't allow any animals on board. I was pretty certain that airlines allow this as long as we have prior approval, pay a fee, carry on fits in compartment and such. But they don't. My question is: Is it worth it to go to frog day to see everything and then have it shipped to me anyways? Or should I cancel my trip?

Thanks

I have heard that if you put the frogs in small containers and put them in your carry on luggage and do not mention anything about them that you should be fine. How many frogs do you plan on taking home with you?

I just want to bring home a family of Vents or Imitators if they are available. I'm afraid of chancing that they may search more fervently because of 911. Thanks.
Still in Southern Ca, not to mention that I have to break the news to my 10 year old who was going with me. Hey, Maybe I can take a bus there(I'm not one for driving myself long distances) Thanks for the brainstorming

They do random searches now since 9-11. I would make arrangements with delta to have them dashed to you and try to have them leave long before you so they are sitting their waiting for you when you arrive.

That's a shame! Now if it were an Ocelot on a string or a rhinoceros, the ban might make sense. Don't cancel and miss seeing the neat stuff. You'll have a great time even if you should end up not even buying any frogs--or having them shipped. I realize that option is pretty expensive, especially on top of your own trip.

So, there is still plenty of neat stuff to see that is worth taking the trip? I'm trying to see about taking the bus or train or something. Southwest said that just this once, I could get my tickets refunded. I must have frogs(southwest thinks I'm in need of help)-I feel so obsessed by them-what is the matter with me?!? Thanks everyone for the ideas and the sympathy. In addition to a solution to my travel problems, I feel like I need a Psychologist!! I differ with you, Patty, on your previous suggestions that this bug is not fatal and only chronic. I very much think that this bug just might cause me fatal injuries!

Why not post that you live in Southern Ca, and maybe you could car pool with someone from your area. You could also try Amtrack or a train. Check and see if there will be any vendors there from Southern California that might be able to bring back your frogs with them, then you can meet up with them once you are back home to pick up your frogs. I believe Pumilio.com will be there. Check out the Frognet site, and inquire about Southern Ca. vendors that might be able to help you out. Best of luck to you.

I don't know what frog day is, but that is weird that the airlines will not allow it. I just flew two flights on Delta last week, and had two dogs, a hamster, and a turtle on the flights in the passenger cabins (though one dog was an irrate police dog)

A friend of mines step dad was moveing to where ever he is from, and he carried 3 dart frogs in a empty wine bottel that was frost black. The frogs lasted the 6-8hour trip no problem. And if they search ya, they will just assume u dig drankin

It amazes me the airlines allow people to carry on wine bottles, yet you can't take a 1" dull nail file on a fingernail clipper aboard. They searched my purse and made me break off the file portion of the tiny clipper, yet we had two bottles of wine we had purchased in the duty-free shop on the way in. God forbid had they found a an "attack-frog" in my purse. Haven't they ever seen a western bar brawl where the villain (never the hero) uses a broken bottle as a weapon?
