Novice Question

jmcghee Aug 31, 2006 08:24 PM

Hello-
I keep several species of larger boids (Retics, Burms, Bloods, Boas etc.) but have always been fascinated by chondros. I've noticed that some of the higher end snakes tend to hold some of their neonate colors into adulthood, but I've only seen adults that held yellow, or blue. My question is are there any adults that hold that bright red color that I've seen the babies have, and if so is anyone working with such animals. The bright red babies that I've seen are just absolutely stunning but I've never seen an adult that retained any of that. I breed the other species of snakes that I have but would love to get a GTP just as a display animal. Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the newbie question. Thanks!

from all the adult chondros ive seen, there have been maybe two that seem to carry it to maturity but only for a while. Usually calico chondros can hold some red. for examples see greg maxwell's the more complete chondro. hope this helps.

Its not the norm.
Have you considered an Amazon Tree Boa?
Now *there* is some serious red!

To be honest I haven't seen many. Are there red phases of them?

Hello

To date, there are no red adult Chondro’s... I suspect it might happen eventually...

Also to clarify... The yellow you see on an adult is actually different to that of a neo... Maybe Julian can post the pic he has of a neo and adult High Yellow… The yellow is actually a different color of yellow...

If you do decide to get one I would suggest Rico Walder... He has a vary wide price range and a great selection...

Good luck...

Here is a link to some Red ATB's

Shiloh is right (man i hate saying that ). An adult High Yellow and a Neo don't "really" look the same. Here is that photo he was talking about.

As you see the yellow gets more intense / pale.
