It's fun OUTSIDE the lines too...

I just wanted to share some photos of a couple of "unique" babies. There are some Genetic Stripe Ball Pythons that have perfect, unbroken stripes and then there are...well, these guys!

I think perfect, unbroken Genetic Stripes are definitely awesome animals. However, not everyone can be perfect

I like to refer to these guys as "cryptic Stripes". The pattern on them is so broken up they no longer really even look like Genetic Stripes! At first, I wasn't too fond of the broken stripes and I know a lot of people don't like them either. However, the more I saw them and the more broken up the patterns came out, the more I liked them! Now it's almost like they are so "ugly", they're cool - like a "sexy-ugly".

Now if we can eventually produce babies with the broken, "cryptic"-looking pattern all the way down their back, that would be pretty cool looking. Or how about one with a stripe that is broken up it forms circular patterns all down its back - a Motley Ball Python!

Anyways, I just wanted to share some photos of a couple of "sexy-ugly cryptic Stripes"...

What do you guys think?

Celia

Celia, first of all, you're photography skills could make anything look pretty. I'm partial to complete stripes but this could grow on me .

OK, so they don't fit the "standard". I think they are very cool, and I wouldn't mind having one in my collection!

gah...(hit enter to soon)

I meant to include,...There has to be some other gene with quite a degree of influence over that of the stripe gene(duh,obviously)..So i wonder what would happen if they were paired together...

Very nice!

I was talking to Sean about this and he was thinking that there might be another gene in there that influences the stripe to be "perfect". So instead of a gene causing the stripe to be broken, it would be a lack of this "special gene" that would be causing the broken striping. Anyways, it's just a hypothesis. Hopefully future breeding attempts/trials will shed some more light on this.

We did hatch out a perfect stripe sibling to these two "cryptic" Stripes I posted photos of. It's crazy how much variety there is in this clutch. The "perfect" Striped individual also has a diminished stripe pattern. It's hard to describe so I'll snap some photos of it later on.

Thanks,
Celia

I personally think all GS's are awesome snakes, but hadn't yet seen one like that. It's a tough call which one I like best, but that is very nice! Is there anything you folks can't do superbly over there?? lol

Celia those pics are beautiful and you sure do have the touch. The animal is just drop dead gorgeous and your photo skills make it more so. Keep up the good work and lets see more...........more..........more.....dammit. Take care and you and Sean try to stay out of trouble.

Celia - great shots - as always!!!

I think I'm in agreement with you - they aren't your standard perfect genetic stripe but they are cool in their own way! I don't think the look would work as well if you didn't have such a clean G-stripe but since ya do it looks great (IMO)!

Congrats!!

I'm glad to see that there are other people out there that think these guys are pretty neat. I just find the randomness of the broken pattern to be interesting. I'll post some more photos of them when the entire clutch comes out.

Thanks,
Celia
