Just a little update on the strange habits of my little green friends...
As I mentioned before Andy and I were both saying away from the forum that our collareds are sleeping in late and going to bed really early.
Normally they are up and waiting under the basking light as soon as the sun comes up, ready for me to switch it on. Not recently....
They now have to drag themselves out of bed anything up to half an hour after I turn the thermostat up,and I've noticed that by the time I get home from work at about 17:30 one or both is sitting in a cave sleeping.
During the day they pelt around like idiots, no change there, but I was wondering as they are WC maybe they have an instinct that now its getting close to hibernation time, even though its no colder in the vivarium. We had a really hot spring time and had the highest temperatures ever recorded in June this year, it was a heatwave that seemed to go on forever. Its now typical gloomy rain and has been for about a month. My heating was on last night!!
One other change I have noticed is that since this started they have incredible appetites, especially the female. She has a better weight than the male, I think he's one of this year's whereas she was gravid the day I bought her. She tends to sleep more than he does and she probably eats more too.
This morning she got her head in the grass-hopper tub and was eating whilst I was trying to dust them, very awkward but kind of funny too. They are about 2 inches long and she ate no less than 5 within a minute, plus whatever else she decides she wants later.
One other thing, she has white stuff all over her nose, I cant decide whether its dead skin or mucus, I hate it when they do that sinus-eye-ball-clean-it-all-out stuff.
Another good thing is they have stopped trying to get through the glass, Yoshi's bumped nose has healed and she seems to be getting very brave when it comes to being handled..almost too brave. She's up your arm and on your lap the second the door is open. Thing is she then throws herself on the floor or the windowsill and sprints about til she gets cold, or til I can catch her and put her back. Some might say she enjoys a bit of freedom. Yoda is usually more interested in filling his face. I should have called him Homer.
Just thought I'd tell you about my weird and wonderful pets, they're fascinating. So Unpredictable !!
