need help on investment

lovepig78 Sep 01, 2006 11:20 AM

hey, well i started collecting balls in late '05, i fell in loVe with the bumblebees, when i saw then at the anaheim show...instead of buying one i decided to breed it. i thought it would be more satisfying.

so now i have an '05 pastel male and six '05 normal females.
i also have and male orange ghost male and a female pastel het. orange ghost.

but now i am looking into purchasing a spider.
i have found many great breeders and great prices. i was concidering purchasing from exoticsbynature or from ballboutique

but my question is should i get a female or a male?
many breeders have told to get a male and make my own females, but i would have to wait at least 2 more years to produce spiders and then wait another 2 more to raise the females to breeding size to make bumblebees...

so what should i do guys get a male and wait it out
or get a females for quicker results???

all replies will be greatly appreciated

Joe

Well do you want to produce alot of spiders as well? If not then I would go with the female.

Better yet you could wait till you breed your pastel. Hold back a few female pastels, and sell/trade your way to a male spider. He could them breed with some of your female pastels to make a whole hive of bees. If any of your normals go this year then it will only take 1 year longer than buying a 06 female. But with this year you can increase you bee output 5x. Also it may not take a year longer as you could hold onto the best feeders that may mature faster than a poor feeding 06'

I guess that's what happens when you think faster then you type.

You would get a faster return on investment with a male spider when he breeds, if your ultimate goal is to produce a bumble bee, a female spider will get you there faster.

either way you win, I personnaly think co-dom wize, a male is a better investement just for the fact you can create your own army of females versus waiting the 2-3 year before a female can breed.

Good luck

Why not? even if spiders drop to $300 next year which they won't it only requires you to sell 4 spiders to make your money back and everything after that is profit in 1 year. No other "INVESTMENT" can give you a return like that. Everyone needs to realize just because you don't make $30k off your $10k purchase still doesn't make the animals a bad investment. We paid almost $4k for our spider last year, the price has dropped to below $1500 and will probably be around $500-$750 next year and we should have no problem making our money back on his purchase price even though we are going to hold back spiders for further breedings. It's easier to produce quanity with co-doms and the prices reflect that but that also makes it easier to produce more animals for sell and thus equalizing the profit margin with recessives.

and don't really care what else or how many you produce, I would get a female spider.

Personally in your position I would get a Pinstripe Spider, but I just happen to like Lemon Blasts over Bees.

Also, Sean and Celia at EbN are great people and have some very nice animals!

then next year get a male spider. You will have the ingredients for your Bumblebee and be getting 2 snakes for the same price as a spider this year. Next year you can breed the spider to your normals then breed him the the pastel the next to get your bumble bee. Thats what I would do. Vinnie

Ok your title is help with investing?
If you worried about you ability to recover your investment stay with simple recessive strains. You seen what happen to the pastel market........Mojave will be next....Supply and demand ..Everyone and there brother are buying up females and a few co doms and flood the market. Albinos were the first morph I believe and they still hold there value. I seen a pastel for 200.00 recently. But on the other hand produce what you love , not for the cash but just for the love of the hobby.

Or you could get a female spider combo so that she will give you other combos once you have your bumblebee. Sounds like money is a consideration, so try a spider girl that is also het albino or het ghost- honey bees are amazing. How about those axanthic spiders of NERDs?

If I were to buy a female spider, I would get one from a spiderxspider breeding on the off chance that you end up with a super. Not that this has been proven.
