Iguanas native to Puerto Rico?

Malays Sep 01, 2006 03:26 PM

Hello
I was recently in Puerto Rico and never saw so many huge iguanas in my life . Are they native to Puerto Rico ?
I thought not but asked a few people there they said yes . Our hotel infact had a few big ones that would jump in pool early in am than after a minute or so jump out .

I have been there before never saw them granted havent been there in last 5 yrs .

I have pictures of iguanas in Puerto Rico. Many of the Islands have iguanas, although Rock Iguanas are more common in that area than green iguanas.

I never knew that there were igunas there as had never seen any till last time I was there than saw countless .

Infact they were using dogs at the airport to chase the igunas off the runway early in am . The climate ofcourse is perfect for non desert reptiles .

Thanks
