Hi, I'm just trying to figure out what kind brand of Calcium with D3 I should buy. I don't have any reptile petstores around me so if you could help out and give me a brand name or something of the sort, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi. I have been using Rep-Cal for many years. It is made from ground up oyster shells, so is a natural source of calcium. I recommend using the Ultrafine Rep-Cal as it is almost indetectable on the food. It is made in CA by Rep-Cal Research Labs. You may reach them at 800.406.6446.
My well water has a huge amount of calcium in it.It covers the grass and plants and tortoises with a white film.Is this a good thing OR is it a bad thing.I just moved here so I have no long term experence with its effect.Vic

Hi Vic. If the water has as much calcium content as you say, it may be detrimental over a long term of use. Is this same water used in your home and/or tortoise facility? If so, you will probably need to install a water softener to remove the calcium or your pipes and appliances will become clogged with it, just as arteries get clogged when there is too much cholesterol in the bloodstream.
I would be more concerned with damage to your pipes and appliances in the short term than to the animals, but it would probably be good to "soften" most of the water you use and leave one or two sources of unsoftened water which could be used when desired such as for irrigating lawn or grassy areas and watering plants, etc.
