Eating less with age?

blueharlequin Sep 01, 2006 10:32 PM

Has anyone experienced that their snakes eat less as they age? I've got one female Honduran going on that's going on nine years old and she only really eats once every three or four weeks. (FYI, I stopped breeding her years ago.)
Loss of appetite is usually a sign of some other problem, but was wondering if it might just be age.

I don't know about eating, but a nine year old snake shouldn't be all that old. Snakes are known to breed into their 20s.

I stopped breeding her for a totally unrelated health concern, now no longer a problem.

I did notice that when I pair of thayeri I have reached 11 years, they stopped taking rodents with fur and no only like small pink rats which they will only eat ever 3-4 weeks.

they are just over 14 now and still wont eat much.

10 is old for some colubrids
