Shedding to egg laying

MikeMurphy Sep 02, 2006 08:52 AM

What's the longest you've had a female take to lay her eggs after pre-egg laying shed? I'm starting to get a little paranoid as my female suboc has hit 11 days and she still has not laid. She will settle in the box and I think that it's time but then I find her crawling around again. She is huge and I'm ready for her to get the eggs out. I know a lot of authors say it can take up to two weeks but I've never had a female of any species go that long. I'm sure she's fine and she'll lay any moment now but I wouldn't mind some reassurance

Thanks.

I don't think there's any cause for alarm yet.She will lay when she's ready. My suboc. girl is at 5 days past shed and I don't expect her to fallow "the book".What do you have for a laying box? I'm using a plastic tub with moist sphagnum moss.
I know how you feel about your girl. This is the first year mine have bred. The female has been up to size for some time but my male is a year younger than her and I waited for him to gain some size to breed to her.Of all the clutches I had this year,I'm more excited about this one.Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hey Mike:
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine but as it gets close to the long end of the range I always get a bit antsy. Especially this year as I did things differently so I'm expecting her to lay a clutch of fertile eggs for the first. She has a medium sized sweater box with moistened spaghum moss. Same as I've used for her and all my snakes in the past. I'll keep you guys posted. I just wish she would lay already! Then I can enjoy watchiing college football tonight without thinking about it!

Mike
