kammekammo Sep 02, 2006 10:33 AM

This is the secone year in a row my pair of dum's had babies and they refuse to eat. Last year was the same thing. Is there any tricks to getting babies to eat. Luckily there are only two babies this year. Last year there were 5.........and i sold them before they started to eat. I tried pinks, fuzzies, and hoppers, during the day and at night and nothing. I have some quail eggs almost ready to hatch im going to try them. Then i will try fuzzy rats. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Sometimes, you just need patience. How long ago were they born? How long did you have last years babies before selling them? I've had babies eat the day after they were born, and I've had some take over a month. With only two babies, I'm going to guess they're well nourished and have good body weight....yes? Let them go atleast a couple weeks before attempting to feed, and if that doesn't go over well, wait atleast another week. They will get hungry. Let us know some time lines, and I'm sure more people can help from there as well. Snakeman97???? has had good luck with quail chicks, so give that a try as well when you have them. Take care

Paul,
thanks......they were born july 25th. and they have great body weight and are about 14-15 in. I have been trying everything from mice to yesterday i bought rat pups and they didnt work. The quail chicks have just started hatching yesterday so im hoping they will do the trick. Last year i gave up after 2 months of trying to get them to eat i didnt want them to starve and die so i sold them as non feeders hoping someone who knows what they were doing buys them and they did.
