has there been a decrease of " other " critters down in the region as in millipedes and tarantulas recently. With the last 4 to 5 trips, i haven't seen near as many as years before. I guess factors of drought and other climatic conditions could be an answer.
On this last trip we had cowboy Donnie's daughter with us ( AKA , Tarantula girl ) and while she is a devoted tarantula keeper, we were always on the lookout for the Texas specie of tarantula. We covered areas in the daytime looking for the borrows, we traveled early morning sometimes on pavement and of course at night. We did find what appears to be a young female crossing the highway with the tarantula girl almost jumping through the front windshield when it was seen ! LOL !

I saw hundreds of millipedes at BG on the cuts last weekend. I also saw decent numbers of tarantulas (considering the extended drought - probably around a dozen)

Troy I am with you on this one, the 3 nights I was driving & shining cuts on black gap, I saw LOTS of millipedes & quite a few tarantulas, perhaps Chambo shoulda shined some cuts. I would be quick to say that overall ALL numbers are WAY down due in large part to the drought, less water=less insects, plant seeds= less lizards less mice less reptiles & on up the food chain. I saw 1 tarantula in Terrell & maybe 3 in Pecos county crossing roads this last August.

Troy,
I have a shed from a 20 inch regalis from the Pajarito Mts in Santa Cruz Co if you're still collecting data; I'll be happy to send it your way Philip Ralidis

I spent 6 days in the Alpine/Davis area last week. We saw numerous tarantulas, scorpions, vinegaroons, and other critters. Also lots of snakes....and more deer than I have ever seen out there! There were 2-3 deer along the side of the road every 1/2 mile. I can't believe we didn't hit one. Also seen were: raccoons, skunks, ringtails, porcupines, javelina, foxes, coyotes, and the numerous rodents. All in all, wildlife was abundant.
