Yoshi's a grotty little thing....

kellybee Sep 03, 2006 09:40 AM

Well after the snalt conversation her face is now clean. I have mentioned this before, but it's just as gross:

Both my collareds are shedding at the moment. This morning I got up to find that Yoshi's entire top side had peeled back, she was carrying a long spotty piece of dead skin that had come away from her body but was still attached to the base of her tail and was dragging it around the viv behind her. As I watched she ate the entire thing, it took her a while because it was sticking to her teeth. She then pulled a piece of flaky skin from Yoda's foreleg, and proceeded to eat that too.

Not much of a lady hey? And considering she's shedding she still had an appetite enough to gobble a large locust too, it was bigger than her head. NICE

Grotty just means gross, my Thesaurus defines it as the following:

Shabby
Rundown
Dingy
Tatty
Grubby
Grim
Unpleasant

I have a friend who's a canadian Ice Hockey player, I've taught him a lot of words he never heard before too, he really makes me laugh because it just doesnt sound right when he says it. He'll also tell me off for saying that.

And no, you guys are not grotty, you're all cool, lol

I just have a grotty lizard that's got snot on her face and likes to eat her own dead skin......as well as that of others!

PHEve Sep 05, 2006 07:13 AM

LOL

On a good note the dead skin she eats contains alot of nutrients and is good for her to eat.
They know what they are doing better than we do, may be GROTTY, but GOOD, hehehee

What they're missing that they need to eat their own skin to compensate.

PHEve Sep 05, 2006 12:43 PM

Well it's NOT that their are really missing anything, they just KNOW instinctively that it is good for them.

Don't you go and try it, LOL it would be quite GROTTY

I always liked the word manky. But what's the difference between grotty and manky?

ROFL, where you hear "Manky"? There's not a lot of difference between manky and grotty, except grotty is the polite, not so bad version.

Manky is kind of on a worse scale, A box of dead crickets you forgot you had thats been left for a while and is starting to stink is Manky.

A box of crickets where some have died but most are ok is just grotty.

Minging is more a reference to people. Your friend has a crush on a bloke, you might say "Well I think he's minging". Or "Are you mad, he's a complete minger" Lol

I was telling you about my Ice Hockey friend... He went on the local radio last year and bet me he could get the word Minging in, and he did too. Hilarious

>>ROFL, where you hear "Manky"?

Hehe - should I be embarrassed if I say Harry Potter? The first portkey was described as a "manky old boot", which I loved.

I could lie and say I heard it when I was there. I got to live in London for two months about 10 years ago. I was in Glasgow last year for 5 months, but they've got their own slang. Do you say Ned? I'm not sure how local it is, but a minger might be a Ned in Glasgow.

And I was wondering if "grotty" and the very-popular-in-the-80s "grody" stem from the same source. They seem to mean the same thing.

OK firstly what's OT mean?

Secondly why on earth would anyone be embarrassed about being a HP fan? I think everyone loves HP, Even my very manly (PMSL), football-and-beer-loving other half read the HP's on holiday last year, after he read the first chapter of the Philosophers stone he was very difficult to get a conversation out of until he'd finished the lot, my parents have all the films, and my 26 year old brother called me to tell me how distraught and angry he was by what Snape did to Dumbledore.

Funny how we all speak the same language in really different ways. I never heard anyone use the word "Ned", but then again I dont live anywhere near scotland. I dont really understand glaswegians anyway (Not thru lack of trying), its like a different language to me!! I know they say "Dooo ya ken?" alot which means do you understand. Unfortunately for me i usually dont

>>OK firstly what's OT mean?

OT is 'off topic', since we're no longer even remotely talking about collareds!

OK, here's where the HP thing could get embarrassing. Of course my whole family and circle of friends are rabid HP fans, but my friends and I also dress up for the premiere of each of the Harry Potter films. Of course we use any excuse we can for dressing up.

I had a rough time understanding people in Scotland for a while. It was definitely more the expressions that I couldn't fathom rather than the accents!

Dude thats so cool, I'd love to do something like that, but nobody here ever does. Its something you only ever see on the telly but it does look like a lot of fun, makes it even more exciting to see the films I guess.

Nothing embarrassing about enjoying yourself !!!!! If you're ever in the UK when a HP film is released, email me and I'll come too !!!!

kellybee Sep 07, 2006 06:47 AM

That is the cutest thing I ever saw, except for an email I got today with a great big dog hugging a little tiny baby.
