VaranusAqua Sep 03, 2006 01:08 PM

Okay when i first bought my water monitor i was told that cypress mulch would be okay, but i think my monitor would be happier with soil. But what kind of soil? What do you use?

i believe he used sifted dirt from around his area.

what i do is lookf for dry stream beds (we happen to have one on our property so i lucked out) and get that soil.

thats an old pic and his burrow has gotten much deeper but its a cool shot because you can see his side pattern.

nope. you might want to sift it if there's a lot of branches and what not in it but as far as cleaning goes you dont have to do anything.

Yea, I would use leaflitter when they are young, then leaflitter over this type of sandy material(in pic). This is a pic of me investigating a freshwater croc nest. I found eight in the area, all nests contained a few full tern dead in the eggs and a few infertiles. I found that very interesting.

In my experience, Mertens and V.panoptes both nest in this very same type of area. Cheers
