is this normal behaviour for a bp ?

when i first got him, he would be out EVERY night playing around and climbing on the trees to inspect the cage ...
now after his first shed, he NEVER goes out anymore at night, i have to take him out to see him, and then as soon as i put him back, he goes to his hide.

Sounds normal to me. The only way I have seen mine lately is to take her out. I believe yours comes out when you are not home or asleep. Mine does and leaves proof behind(shed skin, feces, moved bedding). You might also want to check your temps and humidity. Check out the Ball Python Manual sometime too. I think it will really help you out.
