pictures of large bulls

kcaj Sep 03, 2006 10:40 PM

Hi, I have been reading of Bullsnakes in the 8 foot and above range. I am sure that these would be a rare occurance but that they would be more likely to get this big in captivity than in their natural world. Does anyone have any pictures of some extra large bullsnakes. I read on Shannon Brown's site that he had a over 9 foot male and over 8 foot female, but there were not any pictures. Just wanted to see the Granddaddies.

Irwin had a real giant on Larry King or some show a year ago. He's one of my all time top 10 heroes and it's a sad morning this Labor Day Monday.....CROCS RULE!!! STEVE!! May you look down on us from heaven and be pleased with those who carry on your work!!

While I did not agree with many of his actions or tactics when it came to the handling of reptiles, I am very sad that he has passed away. My prayers are with his family and friends.

Hi Kong, That is a nice massive Snake a rabbit eater for sure, Thanks for the pic, do you know where it's lineage is from? And what part of the country it's lineage is from? Midwest? South central? Midwest Northern? Very beautiful snake.

skronkykong Sep 05, 2006 01:32 AM

I have no idea about where that snake comes from. I got the picture off of another board. I have a snow that looks just like it though only she is only 2 and much smaller. I always read and here about huge bullsnakes but rarely ever see pictures of any. This one looks like it might be 8 feet.

Here is a picture of a snake caught localy (Central Oklahoma). I don't know who caught it. I just got the picture off of a local pet shop's website.

My albino male bull will probably get pretty big. Here he is when he was just over a year old - about 49 inches.

Looks like that one might have made eight foot but it looks like it is also dead. Wonder if the guy holding it killed it.

skronkykong Sep 05, 2006 02:05 PM

Yeah now that you mention it the snake does look dead. I always assumed it wasn't. Hmm

I believe that's Shannon Brown outside of the Motel 6 in Del Rio, Texas. And no, it would be a road kill. He has captured several *measured* wild caught eight foot-plus bullsnakes from Hwy 277. Eight foot and larger bullsnakes are not terribly uncommon in the Del Rio area.

Roy Engeldorf at the Outback Motel in Sanderson has a bullsnake in his private collection that is between seven and eight feet in length.

Seven foot-plus was common on the Kankakee sand prairies in the old days. I saw several. With the heavy hunting Kankakee suffers, five foot long bullsnakes are now considered large.

Cheers

Ok yeah that makes sense. Bullsnakes are getting hard to come by any size here in central Oklahoma. I've caught hundreds of snakes and never once have I seen a bullsnake in the wild. No shortage of rat snakes here though!

kcaj Sep 06, 2006 03:31 AM

Hi Terry, I didn't think he killed it , just wondered if he did. I didn't know that was Shannon Brown in the photo. I figured that when I posted my orginal message that There would be a flood of people showing their exlarge bulls including Shannon Brown, I guess either not many people have pictures of very large bulls or not many people have read the post. The picture of the snow bull is truly impressive. It reminds me of The Male Eastern Indigo posted awhile back by nazzza from Italy on the Indigo forum.

skronkykong Sep 06, 2006 03:53 PM

Yes I was expecting some others to post pics of monster bulls too. I don't think that many over 8 feet exist in captivity. Most people I've seen keep their bulls in enclosure that are too small (including myself, but I'm trying to go bigger than 50 gallons!). I'm going to try and find that indigo picture now.

Aaron Sep 10, 2006 12:11 AM

Terry you are correct, that is Shannon Brown with a DOR bullsnake found on Hwy. 277. I was there in the parking lot when that pic was taken.

I have a pic at home(I'm at the office now) of what looks to be a legit 8' bull that nobody has posted yet. A younger guy is holding up in a snake room. Yeah, you see lots of people claiming "yeah, the parents of these are 8 footers", but I have seen few that big. I think the largest snake we had was a Southern Pine that was close to 7'. I'll try to think to postthat pic later.

Not sure who this is from, I DLed it a while back.

skronkykong Sep 05, 2006 08:31 PM

Wow dang!

DISCERN Sep 05, 2006 08:49 PM

That is Shannon Brown's founder male of his monster bull line. The snake was I believe 9 foot 2 inches or something, with a stub tail.

If that is Shannon Brown's founding Male then the guy holding the snake would have to be close to 7 feet tall himself for that snake to be 9 foot. Can't see all the tail, but if the guy is, let's say an average 6 foot and is holding 1 foot above his head, there would have to be 2 feet of snake out of site on the tail end. I believe that is a legit 8 footer and very large compared to what I have ever seen. of course that's only my opinion and photo's can be decieving.

DISCERN Sep 06, 2006 12:31 PM

Actually, the pic is kind of tricky. There is a 3 foot area between the box that the snake was crawling on and the person holding the snake. Look at it closely, as it is hard to tell at first.

The snake had measured out 9 foot 2 or 3 with a stub tail.

I guess if you say so, in any case it's a very large bullsnake.

ShaunRoberson Sep 06, 2006 06:17 PM

I see what you're saying, it's not hanging straight down, but it's coming out towards the camera maybe 2 feet, starting from maybe 2 feet off the ground, so what looks to be the bottom 2 ft of the snake by the head could actually be about 2.83 feet(note: Pythagoras). There is probably a foot over his head(can't see all of tail, so I'd say it is definitely an 8 footer.

shannon brown Sep 07, 2006 12:51 PM

is over nine and its still alive. The person that has it would rather not be mentioned or would not like it if I posted pics of him.I beelieve it to be the largest pit in any collection period.
Anyway,My founder was 9-2 with a stubb tail when put to rest. The pic of me holding one up dead was like Terry said outside the motel and it was just a large road kill but not the largest by far.

I also had a male we caught in (04) that was 8-3 at capture but a year later I returned the giant were caught because he was a terrible captive. He would eat just fine but his cage had to be fully covered all the time etc...He was 8-6 at release.

My largest female is just at 8 foot now and gave me 18 eggs this year. This is her in the pic. This is the largest female I have seen as the males tend to get longer but not as girthy.
The male thats the father of this clutch is only about 6-6 and is a three year old f1.
