Cage Ventilation, need advice.

nomad85 Sep 03, 2006 11:34 PM

I have come to the stage in construction where I have to decide how I am venting my cages. My friend thinks that one needs to be high on the back or the air will be stagnant, but that will let most of the humidity out and defeat the point of making a solid topped cage...
The cage is 4x3x2(lxhxd) what is the best way to vent it?

What are you going to put in it? That will help with the decision... Thanks

A pair of yellow ackies. I am also making(2) 4x2x2 cages for my bearded dragons and would like to know how its best to vent the cages.

I've heard many times that ventalation is not all that nessecary infact alot of ventalation will do more bad then good. For ackies you want the humidity at at least 50%, and some more wouldnt hurt either, infact 55%-60% should be just fine. Too much ventalation will compromise those factors. Maybe cut a small rectangular hole and put wire mesh on it. Most custom wood tanks are not air tight anyway. That alone should allow air flow. So will opening the doors for feeding, and maintnence. I have a pair of ackies that will arrive on tuesday and i have a custom wood tank bought from a builder years ago with two 8x6 inch vents on each side and im going to cover most of it up to keep the humidity high.
