I thought this article was a joke. I had to do some research. I found a few other articles stating the same thing.
That is sad. Well, at least he did not go out like everyone thought he would....eaten by a crock.
Feel sorry for his wife and kids.
What a loss to the world of animals.

RIP

and couldn't believe it. Thought it was a joke as well, had to go look elsewhere. He made amazing progress in educating people about the animals of our world, I was just thrown back when I read that he'd died.

Absolutely awful! I'm just thankful it wasn't a croc or snake that got him; he wouldn't have wanted the backlash on those species he loved most. He was a real conservationist, in spite of his showmanship blarney.

I'll be keeping his family in my prayers.

Yea i thought it was a joke, but when i saw it on Yahoo news, then on CNN Tv, i new it was real. I still cant beleive a stingray took him out. Freaky.

As much of a "showman" as he was, he truly loved animals and did more then anyone in the last 30 years to show people just how wonderful even the nastiest of animals could be.
I am just glad it wasn't a croc or snake that killed him.
The backlash would have been unbelievable.
I feel for Terri, the kids and everyone at Australia Zoo. His loss will have an enormous impact.
Let's hope another will take his place.
Maybe Jeff Corwin can fill the void.
Jeff can be a little goofy at times but he does care.
Maybe in a few years we will see Steve's daughter, Bindi, take up the torch and carry on in her father's footsteps.

I hoped it was a joke, it's hard to imagine something getting the better of him.
I think his kids will probably continue on - he was in there with the rays to get footage for Bindi's new TV show apparently , it would be hard for them not to love animals as much as him and Terri.
TV will seem a bit more dull now without him livening things up.

He will be sorely missed by many including my sons and I who he brough many a laughter to over the years . . .
A great loss . . . .
