Steve Irwin dies....

craigreptile Sep 04, 2006 12:56 AM

It is with great grief and sadness that I bring this news to the Forum. Steve Irwin, the famous Crocodile Hunter was pronounced dead today. His dead induced by a sting from a sting ray taken to the heart. He died while filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrrier Reef... for more info go to

Steve Irwin was a great individual who epitomized the importance of "conservation through education."

His death represents a tremendous loss to the scientific, environmentalist, and, of course, herpetological community.

Crickey, Stevo!!

Sad day, indeed. The world needs more folks in it who are willing to educate and conserve.

RIP Steve.

Yeah, let it be a lesson to us all what a difference on person can make... in addition to taking part in countless captive breeding programs Stevo educated litterally millions of people on how important it is to save all animals... not just ones that are fuzzy...

I have looked all over the net and cant find anywhere that we can post tributes to Steve, who for most of us was the ultimate ambassador and teacher for the creatures we know and love.

For me Steve Irwin was a striking force in the protection of everything that this site is about. He is the best example of what this community believe in, I think a page for us to leave or respects would be a great thing

With his own money he bought a tremendous amount of land just to keep it wild . He also used his own money to pay for vet care for countless reptiles, mammals, birds, etc.

His critics should ask themselves what they have done . Granted he had the money but he gave the money and was a friend of wildlife .

Its a tragedy and tremendous loss .

I'm young and I'll be studying for herpetology in college...people have always joked with me, affiliating me with the croc hunter because of my interests (I'm in Jersey, no crocs). I won't lie here and say I idolized him (I've seen his show only a few times)...I didn't, but I was well aware of his accomplishements and donations...but mostly his overwhelming love for his profession and wildlife. I always viewed him as the most passionate and most understanding of the unpredictability of wildlife.

Steve Irwin died and I thought it was an internet joke. I think of this guy and I think invincible (yes, like that article said)...I really was shocked. Best of luck to his family, and friends. The herpetological world had, in my eyes, a great loss in connection to the world.
