Suboc with egss!!!

MikeMurphy Sep 04, 2006 10:21 AM

Finally, after 13 (possibly 14) days post-shed my normal het for blonde suboc started laying. This is how I found her this morning. She looks like she's got several more to go. The eggs look good as you can see. This will be the first year I've gotten good eggs out of her since she first bred four years ago. The difference this year was bringing the male inside where it's cooler and less humid than the garage where he's normally kept. I kept him with no supplemental heat. The temps in my house range from aroudn 78 or so during the day to 71 at night (I like it cold for sleeping He ate and got on fine. Anyway, I'll post updates as the eggs continue to come out. For now, here's a couple of shots, one with the nest box lid on and the other off. Now, if Florida State can beat Miami tonight this will be one rockin' day!

Man, I knew that would fix the problem! Good work, Mike. Looks like it will be a decently sized clutch. You owe me a blonde from this clutch. Just kidding.

Congrats, dude.

Yeah, that was a great tip Dusty. It made sense. Especially with subocs being such late breeders--by the time they breed it's getting pretty warm in my garage. Doesn't seem to bother them otherwise, they feed and grow fine, but the high temps obviously affected sperm production. Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll keep you posted.

Hey Mike that's great news!Good idea keeping that male cool.I kept my male at floor level in the snake room all year with no supplemental heat.
My girl should soon fallow by the end of the week I hope.
Get us a pic when all the eggs are out and congrats.

Thanks! I will post another shot when she's done. There are three more in the box right now and another one on its way out for 8 so far. Yeah, I guess keeping the male cooler did the trick. Dusty mentioned it first to me and then later (after I'd already done it) Don Soderberg mentioned the same thing. Good luck with yours. Post some shots when the eggs arrive.

Go Noles!
