What's Wrong with my PRB?!?! Help!

across86 Sep 04, 2006 11:36 AM

I noticed this spot on his head about a week ago. Ever since then it seems to look worse every day. :'( I don't have any idea what could have caused this or what to do. Should i take him to a vet? Thanks for any help!

Here is the pic of his head and the strange spot in the middle of it. He's going into shed mode by the way...

it looks like the same thing I have seen on a couple of my corns before, once on a yearling and once on a two year old. Just all of a sudden one day I notice it show up and it would get bigger, always in the center of the forhead. I asked someone once and they told me they had the same thing occur and never had any problems. I put iodine or neosporine on it and within a couple sheds it is gone. Looks terrible but doesn't seem to cause any problems when cared for. When he/she sheds it will more than likely look deeper and rawer than it does now. That is, if this is the same thing and it does look like it.

BUT, NEVER hurts to go to the vet to be sure of things. Good luck with it.

I don't know what that is but I agree that it may get worse before it gets better. To me, it looks like there's some damage under the sacles around the injury that isn't showing itself yet.

Of course, the safest bet is to get to a vet right away. However, If it were my snake, I'd probably just watch it for another week or so. Especially if the snake is in shed and behaving/eating normally otherwise.

Keep photographing it so tha if you do go to the vet you can show them the progression of the wound.

He is behaving and eating normally, and I just fed him on Saturday. Could I get a second opinion on anything that I should apply to the would to help it heal? I'm hoping that once he sheds it may get better, but i don't have any idea what this spot is or what it was caused from. Any more input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I'm hesitant to offer advice when I don't know what's wrong. But, I don't think that putting a small amount of neosporin or betadine on the wound could hurt. If the wound is due to a bacterial infection or was caused by some sort of trauma (rodent bite, rubbing on cage or cage funiture...etc) then this will help. If the wound is due to a fungus or virus, these medications won't help.

I'd like to hear some other opinions as well. In the meantime, your snake is probably not in any immediate danger. I'd still wait to see what it looked like after the shed.

Good luck with him/her and keep the questions coming if you have more.
