Crusing Lancaster Ca. last night!

jasonmc Sep 04, 2006 05:07 PM

Last night was a great night to be out. Unfortunatly their were alot of cars, so we seen many DORs. However Reako and I found several nice live snakes (30 ), all Mojave Green rattlesnakes or baby Pacific Gophersnakes! Here are some pics we took!
Enjoy:

Great looking stuff, and nice shots! I've never been able to find 30 snakes out there in a night. What is your method?

Well,
I was just walking through the fields, and hell NO! LoL, we were road crusing. It was between 10 and 2Am. I dont know if the half moon was a factor or not! It just seemed to be the right place at the right time However usually when we go out their, I fnd lots of stuff!
Once I was their and only found 5 snakes in a 4 hour window. Reako was with me then, as well as another guy, I though reako might be bad luck! Now I know it was'nt him but it was his companion who joined us.
Snakes are so abondent in that area, it's like fishing for carp in a KOI pond.

The most we've seen was 13, but in 2 or 3 hours. Once it starts to wind down, we head home. Most of the activity we get is right after dark (talking springtime mostly). 30 is amazing. Those mojaves are awesome snakes, I'm glad I live in their territory.

Sounds like I need to plan a trip this weekend!

Me? The most superstitous herper around? Bad luck!? Hah! Not when I'm wearin' the lucky snake-hunting shoes (a pair of cheap $13 Big 5 specials). Seriously, those things have never failed me. I'm glad I didn't throw 'em away when the sole got punctured. Heck, I'll probably wear those things til the soles wear out. I've gotta get Dennis (the guy who was w/ me & Jasonmc on the 5 snake night) a pair!

gotta be the shoes,

We were crusing up ave I. around 110th st.west and 170th west. Behind the prison. We also drove down Rosamond BLVD, from 170th. That seems to be a hot area especially around 11PM. Just make sure to keep it hush hush. I would hate for my secret spots to get flooded with people!

Very nice! Looks like it was a blast!

Man- are those greens scary, or what?!? Of them all, that's one I would HATE to have an accident with for sure!

Damn! Those came out GREAT! Those last 2 BIG Mojaves were the best. They're really impressive. Fun stuff! Let's do Whitewater or Box Canyon next.
