Mali X Morraccon Uro questions?

zetaphidiablo Sep 04, 2006 06:26 PM

Hello everyone i have been gone for avery long time and desided to check this board out agian. I was amazed at seeing Lindsay and Douglas's successful breeding of the bandeds.....congrats to both of you. The reason for this post is because of something Douglas said in one of his messages. He mentioned something about pure Mali X Morraccon crosses. I have had two for about 5 years out of Shanaman breeding. Back then it was still unaccepted to cross breed the species like that, but from Douglas's post has it now become more acceptable for this type of hybrid???? Im just curious.

Thanks
Shawn

Hi Shawn

It just is a matter of what you agree with. My personal opinion is that it is not right. Just because people end up with these animals and pretty soon they are lost track of and then we end up selling animals as pure when they are not. Why do it? Just to see if they can? Or maybe to try to make a more colorful animal? Who knows but to me it is a waste. This happened with Cyclura lewisi which is one of the most endangered lizards in the world. Hybrids were then passed off as pure and pretty soon these ended up in proffesional institutions that were trying to breed these animals to save the species. It turned out to be a big fiasco. Just my 2 cents. Tom
