New picture of my Tegu

Ecthelion Aug 04, 2003 11:58 PM

I took this picture of him this morning. He likes to sleep with his head on his rock, I tried a Thermostat on it, but it didn't bring the temp down enough, and everyones been coming to see him, and it turns out that he wasn't having a problem with his jaw, the shed was just bugging him, I've just heard too many Iguana horror stories and went into panic mode hehe. He used my fingers to rub some of the shed off his head, leaving those pearly white scales underneath.

Good to hear! Mine's done that too, they start to rub up against your fingers, and then they sit still while you pull the skin off. Pretty smart lil fellows.

get the heat rock out of the tegus cage, it can literally burn all the skin off his stomach. get him a light. heat rocks are horrible. go to home depot/lowes whichever, buy a dome light and a halogen spot of the right wattage. but no heat rocks, working at a vet clinic iv seen too many lizards come in with very severe burns and die from them. its horrible way to die, you get cooked. and i dont think you want that to happen to ur little tegu.

because that is how you sound. There are better ways to get a point across/

Matthew is correct about the heat rock. If it is not plugged in that's great, if it is, unplug it or get rid of it. Heat rocks can burn herps and cause serious damage.

Your little one is a real cutie though!

Its not plugged in, he just likes to rest his head on it, its cooler than the sand so its also a spot for him to cool off if need be. I got an undertank heater that warms the sand to confortable temerature, and thats what he lays on.

He's a cutie! Glad to hear he's not having that jaw issue, and the heat rock's unplugged.

Yeah he is, you can see in the picture below, he has this little black spot on the top of his head between the eyes. I don't even need that heat rock plugged in even if it was safe, I have 2 Computers, an XBox and a TV in here, they generate atleast 50 degrees, without any other heating elements on, its a very steady 75 degrees in here, and the undertank heater jumps that to 80-86 degrees in the cage, and it also heats the sand so its slightly warmer than the heat rock (When its unplugged). Anyway, I took a picture of him before he went to sleep in his house, he's got some great color on him, even a little bit of orange on his throat, which didn't shed away, I think it looks cool like that.
